At South Bend Heritage, we know that buying a home is one of life’s biggest decisions—and it can feel intimidating. That’s why we’re committed to making the process accessible, offering both renovated historic homes and newly constructed homes designed to strengthen neighborhoods and support long-term success for families.
Our Homeownership Program is made possible in part through the City of South Bend Community Development Program, with funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under Title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1977.

To be considered you must:
Meet income guidelines for each property.
Has not owned a home now (or three years prior) to date of application.
Plans to occupy property as your primary residence.
Be able to secure a mortgage from the financial institution of your choice.
Complete a Homeownership Education Program.
An online homeownership education class is available through SBH for $99. Click here for more information. SBH does not offer in person homeownership education or counseling at this time.
